Reflecting on the Rapid and Immense Development of Phnom Penh

PHNOM PENH: Over the past few years, the capital city of Phnom Penh has been seen to have become more beautiful and attractive for both national and international visitors.

Some attractions in the city include the parks and gardens, including outdoor public gyms, which offer places to sit and breathe in the fresh air after a long day of work or during the holiday.

On the other hand, along the Mekong River, Sakura Blossoms are now flourishing - not to be outdone by the blossoms in Japan. Phnom Penh has also shown rapid development and the building of brand new infrastructures such as flyovers, tunnels, and new sewer lines. Moreover, in recent years, high-rise buildings, luxury condominiums, apartment complexes have appeared simultaneously in both the suburbs and in the center of Phnom Penh.

On Thursday, 10 March, the Governor of Phnom Penh, Khuong Sreng, said that as of the beginning of 2022, Phnom Penh has 310 boreys and apartments, and 1,603 high-rise buildings, including 225 high-rise buildings with 20 floors and up.

In 2021, Phnom Penh, the heart of Cambodia, saw 1,050 new construction projects from the private sector, over a total construction area of more than 4.63 million square meters, and with an estimated total investment of more than US $2.26 billion.
